Envisioning focussed evaluation report (Oct 07)

Envisioners map possibilities, offer a steer and suggest scenarios of where these may lead. During such interaction they may provide reflective, critical comment on ‘journey quality’ and perhaps ‘waymark’ success where and when perceived. From and overarching perspective envisions attempt to scaffold ideas and provide for the ‘bigger picture’.

To question its own and others roles; to analyse/reflect and to facilitate these features in other groups. I feel “monitor and/or revise the purpose, potential, and likely outcome of a given mission” (from web) is particularly poignant.

Within the Metadesign process, Envisioning recognises the roles of the three other co-ordinators at key points. These may be identified as follows:

New Knowing role

Pushing&doing role

Languaging role

In addition, and again during the Metadesign process, the Envisioning role becomes relevant to each of the other groups at particular times or auspicious moments. It may be considered that Envisioning is always there as a real and relevant 'steer', however the degree of relevance waxes and wanes for each of the other co-ordinators whilst in pursuit of their roles. This may be viewed analagously, albeit crudely, as 'relevance biorhythms'. By mapping perceived degrees of 'envisioning need' against time for each of the co-ordinator roles, a picture of auspicious collaboration may begin to emerge.
