The ds21 research project
This ended in December 2005 and led onto the m21 research project
Funded by Designing for the 21st century
An Open Source Design Cluster that uses Synergy Tools
to Guide the Effective Development of
a 'Meta-Design' Methodology
Researchers exploring synergy in the context of meta-design
The Context of ds21
- Different types of green design were intended to reduce environmental damage
- Unfortunately, the economic system was designed to maximise growth
- Successive phases of green design therefore failed to solve the problem
The Vision of ds21 led to the current m21 project
- Our links page illustrates the need for a joined-up world of synergy
- By designing for synergy we hope to create a synergy of synergies (Fuller, 1975).
- We are therefore developing metadesign tools for use by designers and others.
- This would need its own design discourse and a new type of metadesign

Our last conference was held at the Design Council 21 March 2006
- Our previous conference was at the ICA, London, 18th November 2005
