Technology to confuse pedestrians?

(UK mainly - idea for discussion...)

You know when you press the "press here to cross" button on a Pelican Crossing, before you notice that the road is clear? And then you cross unaided before the lights have changed...?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a "Cancel" button to press so the road won't be blocked unnecessarily for TheInvisiblePedestrian? three minutes after you've crossed?
