Wiki Options

During the development of the DreamScape strategy we studied Wiki Culture and capabilities. There are many wiki engines, and to confuse matters there are hybrid wikiblogs and wikis configured as blogs. Some, JOT for example, has both wiki and blog facilities.

JOT.com is an example of a well developed user friendly wiki engine. It is based on one of the five wikis listed below, but is commercial.

Besides this wiki we consdiered the other main wiki engines. They are all open source and free and can be installed on a server by a web savvy player.

TWIKI (http://twiki.org/)

Has draw and presentation Plugins etc. Very powerful wiki with many features.

The TWiki Draw Plugin is very useful tool with basic drawing facilities.

Comments: The editor is difficult to use for formatting text. As a text editor I would rate it 4/10. Straight forward install.

XWIKI (http://xwiki.com/)

Not as powerful as TWIKI with less features and Plug in. Easy to use text editor, I would rate it 8/10. Straight forward to install.

Wikka Wiki (http://wikka.jsnx.com/HomePage)
Middle range editing 6/10

OPEN WIKI (http://openwiki.com/)

Same as above, the Editor rates 3/10

MEDAIWIKI (http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/)

I'll let them express themselves
